Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a nucleotide-derived coenzyme found in living cells. It is the oxidized member of the NAD+/NADH redox pair and is not a peptide.

In laboratory systems, NAD+ accepts electrons during oxidation-reduction reactions tied to glycolysis, the citric-acid cycle, fatty-acid oxidation, and mitochondrial respiration. It is also a required substrate for NAD+-consuming enzymes, including sirtuins, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases, and CD38.
Research has examined links between cellular NAD+ availability, AMPK and SIRT1 signaling, and the role of CD38 in NAD+ metabolism. These pathway findings do not show that administering NAD+ produces anti-aging or metabolic benefits in humans.
